Partial eclipse delivers images of a crescent sun

Science desk, Jun 10 (EFE).- The first annular solar eclipse of the year only delighted the North Pole and certain areas of Canada and Russia with a view of the “ring of fire,” whereas other parts of the world had to settle for sights of a chipped sun, reminiscent of a crescent moon.

The moon moved across the face of the sun Thursday, but its current orbit, further away from Earth than usual, prevented it from blocking the whole surface of the burning star.

For that reason, the ideal places to watch the eclipse were treated to the “ring of fire,” a phenomenon which occurs when the outer edges of the sun slightly peek out whilst the moon blocks its core surface area.

In the rest of the world, aficionados could only see the sun missing a wedge.

The star resembled a crescent moon in many areas of the United States, such as New York or Boston, whilst its obscured chunk was smaller in Brussels, where it was also cloudy.
