El Departamento de Salud podría relajar restricciones de COVID-19 esta semana
MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13) — The health department hinted it might loosen up restrictions on bars and restaurants this week.
The owner of Rumba Room, Edgar Mendez, said he’d support this because he’s only making 10 percent of his sales.
“I want to protect my family I don’t want to bring nothing home. I also want my business to thrive this is like my other kid that I need to feed,” said Mendez.
Mendez opened his dance club 13 years ago when he retired as a professional dancer.
“It’s the dream of every dancer or artist, singer or dancer to have their own little spot where they can share what they love,” said Mendez.
He said it’s hard making money at a dance club when dancing inside a bar is restricted by the health department.
In order to help with his sales, he decided to add a food menu and is hosting outdoor dancing events.
“Still not enough to pay the bills but at least I can pay my staff,” said Mendez.
Mendez hoped the health department will make a change and allow bars to stay open past 10 p.m.
He said no matter what happens he will do everything he can to keep his business running.
“This is my dream that I’ve always had, to have this business. So I’m not going to let it go away or I’m going to try I’m going to go down kicking and screaming,” said Mendez.
Mendez said he’d like to ask the health department to allow dancing inside if businesses are at 40 percent capacity.
FOX13 learned the health department plans to announce changing guidelines for sporting events which might allow more fans inside the Liberty Bowl.

“Quiero proteger a mi familia, no quiero llevar nada a casa. También quiero que mi negocio prospere, esto es como otro hijo al que necesito alimentar ”, dijo Méndez.
Méndez abrió su club de baile hace 13 años cuando se retiró como bailarín profesional.
“Es el sueño de todo bailarín o artista, cantante o bailarín tener su propio lugarcito donde puedan compartir lo que aman”, dijo Méndez.
Dijo que es difícil ganar dinero en un club de baile cuando el departamento de salud restringe el baile dentro de un bar.
Para ayudar con sus ventas, decidió agregar un menú de comida y está organizando eventos de baile al aire libre.
“Todavía no es suficiente para pagar las facturas, pero al menos puedo pagar a mi personal”, dijo Méndez.
Méndez espera que el departamento de salud haga un cambio y permita que los bares permanezcan abiertos después de las 10 p.m.
Dijo que pase lo que pase, hará todo lo posible para mantener su negocio en funcionamiento.
“Este es el sueño que siempre he tenido, tener este negocio. Así que no voy a dejar perderlo, voy a defenderlo con todo”, dijo Méndez.
Méndez dijo que le gustaría pedirle al departamento de salud que permita bailar adentro si los negocios están al 40 por ciento de su capacidad.
El noticiario FOX13 se enteró de que el departamento de salud planea anunciar cambios en las pautas para eventos deportivos que podrían permitir que más seguidores del deporte ingresen al Liberty Bowl.
