Second member of Uganda Olympics delegation tests positive for Covid-19

Tokyo, Jun 23 (EFE).- A second member of the Uganda Olympics delegation, an athlete, has tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in Japan a week ago, authorities from the team’s host city Izumisano said Wednesday.

The first person to have tested positive was a coach from the delegation, NHK reported.

He tested positive at their arrival at the airport on June 19 where he was denied entry to Japan and was immediately sent to an isolation facility.

The other members were sent to a hotel for isolation.

The athlete who tested positive on Tuesday evening is asymptomatic but will be admitted to hospital for observation.

All nine members of the delegation, which includes boxers, weightlifers, swimmers and coaches, are fully vaccinated and had tested negative 72 hours prior to arrival.

The delegation was the second to arrive in Japan after the Australian female softball team. EFE
