MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13) — Two men are behind bars after police said they walked into a local elementary school and stole from the cafeteria.

Ashon and Artrell Hinkley walked into KIPP Elementary on Friday and when someone tried to stop them they said they were student teachers.

They also said they were picking up food for another teacher. The man told them the school does not provide food for the teachers and one of the men then grabbed food anyway, police said.

Police said the victim stepped in front of Artrell to stop him from leaving. That is when he pulled out a knife, pointed it at the victim and said, “Back up or I’ll cut you.”

The two men then left the school and took multiple items of food, police said.

The arrest affidavit states the men ran from the school with four pieces of cheese, four juices, a carton of milk, and a fire extinguisher.

Kipp Elementary released a statement stating that no students or employees of the school got injured.

They also said they are assisting police with whatever they need for their investigation.

A Kipp spokesperson would not discuss how the men may have got into the school.

The men are also accused of assaulting a man at nearby store the same day before going to the school

Both men are charged with aggravated assault and theft.
