Elon Musk hopes to find new Twitter CEO by end of 2023

Cairo, Feb 15 (EFE).- Twitter owner Elon Musk said Wednesday that he hoped to find a new chief executive office for the microblogging site by the end of the year after announcing in December that he would step down from the CEO role only when he found a suitable replacement.

“I’m guessing probably towards the end of this year would be good timing to find someone else to run the company,” Musk said, speaking virtually on the last day of the World Government Summit in Dubai.

“I think I need to stabilize the organization and just make sure it’s in a financially healthy place and that the product roadmap is clearly laid out,” the tycoon said during a 30-minute conversation.

In December, Musk had said he would resign as CEO when he found someone to replace him.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” he tweeted.

Since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter last year and the subsequent changes he announced to the social media, several United Nations officials have expressed concern that the new direction Musk wants to take will weaken the fight against fake news and hate speech.

Musk also spoke about artificial intelligence during his talk in Dubai, describing it as “something we need to be quite concerned about.”

“ChatGPT has illustrated to people just how advanced AI has become. It has been advanced for a while, it just didn’t have a user interface that was accessible to most people,” he said.

ChatGPT has become a viral phenomenon since its launch at the end of last year, piquing users’ interest in the possibilities AI has to offer.

It has also sparked a debate on its possible use in areas such as education, after it was shown to be capable of writing essays that can pass as being written by a student. EFE
