Seoul marks 10th anniversary of K-pop giants BTS

Seoul, Jun 12 (EFE).- Seoul is celebrating the 10th anniversary of K-pop giants BTS with a program of events to mark the global popularity of the band across the South Korean capital starting on Monday.

The festivities have been organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the band’s music label, BigHit Music, and are being held under the so-called BTS Festa — a yearly event that sees both face-to-face and online events and marks the band’s debut which took place on June 13, 2013.

Over the next two weeks, Seoul landmarks such as the N Tower on Mount Namsan, the town hall, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the Seobit artificial islands on the Han River and the Lotte World Tower skyscraper will be lit up in purple, the pop group’s color, to celebrate the band’s global success which is a great source of pride to South Koreans.

Korea Post has issued a set of commemorative stamps of the superstar boy band that were presented on Monday at their Seoul headquarters.

But the most hotly anticipated event will be hosted by RM, BTS’ band leader, and takes place on June 17 on the Han River. The special event for fans in Yeouido island will also be live-streamed.

Last summer BTS announced they were taking a break from music until at least 2025, during which time the seven band members will be focusing on solo projects and mandatory military service.

Jin and J-Hope, have already begun their military service and are expected to finish in July and November 2024, respectively.EFE
