Verstappen lays down gauntlet with Bahrain victory

Sports Desk, Mar 5 (EFE).- Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed victory in the inaugural Grand Prix of the 2023 Formula One season with a dominant performance in Bahrain on Sunday.

The reigning world champion, who started in pole position, was followed across the finish line by his teammate Sergio ‘Checho’ Perez to make it a 1-2 for Red Bull.

The third place on the podium at the Sakhir circuit went to neither Ferrari nor Mercedes but rather veteran driver Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin, who managed to sneak past his compatriot Carlos Sainz in lap 45.

Sainz managed to hold off Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes to keep P4.

Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari suffered a failure that left him out of the race to ring in a disappointing start to the season for the team.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll put in a solid performance to finish in P6 followed by George Russell in the other Mercedes.

Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas clinched 8th in Bahrain ahead of Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly while Alex Albion steered his Wiliams into P10.EFE
