Shakira confirms separation from Gerard Piqué

Barcelona, Spain, Jun 4 (EFE).- Colombian singer Shakira is separating from her partner, Barcelona football player Gerard Piqué, after an 11-year-relationship, her agency announced Saturday.

“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways,” the statement read. “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

Local media had reported that Barcelona’s defender had left the family home after allegedly having an affair.

Shakira, 45, and Piqué, 35, had lived together for 12 years but are not married. They have two children, Milan, 9, and Shasha, 7.

A separate statement denied reports that Shakira suffered an anxiety attack and was hospitalized as a result of the separation process.

“My dad, unfortunately, had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now,” Shakira said in a statement, adding that the incident took place on 28 May. EFE
