Shooting on MTSU Campus Leaves One Dead, One Injured

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) — Middle Tennessee State University officials confirmed the shooting of two people on Wednesday night.
According to Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, a shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. at MTSU on Wednesday evening following the Riverdale High School graduation at the Murphy Center. One person was killed in the shooting, and another is in critical condition.
Investigators said the two people were shot near the tennis courts. It is unknown at this time whether either victim was a student.
“Tonight’s shooting is a tragedy for our community: we mourn with the family who lost a loved one and the family of the person injured,” Sgt. Dan Goodwin said during a press conference on Wendesday night.
Rutherford County Schools District Public Information Officer James Evans said Riverdale High School would be closed tomorrow as a safety measure.
Blackman High School’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday night at the Murphy Center, where this shooting occurred. Rutherford County Schools will be adding extra security as a precaution.
Authorities said there are no suspects that have been identified at this time.

El oficial de información pública del distrito escolar del condado de Rutherford, James Evans, dijo que la escuela secundaria Riverdale estaría cerrada mañana como medida de seguridad.
La ceremonia de graduación de Blackman High School está programada para el jueves por la noche en el Murphy Center, donde ocurrió este tiroteo. Las escuelas del condado de Rutherford agregarán seguridad adicional como medida de precaución.
