Hazard apologized to team for post-Chelsea knockout incident, says Zidane

Madrid, May 8 (EFE).- Real Madrid’s forward Eden Hazard apologized to his teammates for laughing with some Chelsea players following the Spanish teams 3-1 aggregate defeat to his former team in the Champions League semis.

“Hazard knows what he has to do on the field and he is going to do it,” Real Madrid coach said during a press conference ahead of their La Liga game against Sevilla.

“We talked the other day to say he apologized about his reaction to me, to the club and to the players,” he said.

“It is water under the bridge and we have to focus on football, which is the most important for us, and the end of the season,” he added.

The Belgian was seen laughing with his former teammates after Real Madrid’s 2-0 second leg defeat to Chelsea, which drew him criticism from the Spanish team’s fans. He took to Instagram to apologize to the angry supporters.

The coach lamented that the 30-year-old did not live up to the expectations created upon his arrival to the Spanish club in 2019 from Chelsea.

“He’s apologized about the other day. He didn’t intend to cause any problems. He’s a Real Madrid player and he will compete for Real Madrid,” Zidane said.

“So far we haven’t seen the Hazard people want to see. I think he’s going to turn things around. It’s a tough time but he’s got a contract and he wants to succeed here,” he added. EFE
