Ten Arrested Over Mexico Football Brawl
Fiscalía de Querétaro detiene a las primeras diez personas por trifulca en el Estadio Corregidora
MEXICO (AFP) — Ten men have been arrested in Mexico over a brawl between rival football fans that broke out during a game last weekend and left 26 people injured, prosecutors said Tuesday.
These 10 are suspected of attempted manslaughter, violence at a sports event and defending criminal activity, said a statement from the prosecutor’s office in the city of Queretaro.
The fight broke out just after the hour mark of Saturday’s game between the home team Queretaro and Atlas in the top division of Mexican football.
As some fans, including families with children, tried to escape the violence, the clashes spilled out onto the field of play, sending players running for cover.
The game was called off and the football league suspended Sunday’s remaining matches.
Of the 26 people hurt and hospitalized, 19 have been released so far.
A judge issued arrests warrants Monday night for several dozen people who were suspected of taking part in the melee and identified through news footage and social media images.
The judge also authorized searches of these suspects’ homes, and investigators found 82 jerseys with the Queretaro insignia, four pairs of athletic shoes — some stained with blood — and 22 cell phones among other items.
The fight started when Queretaro fans invaded and attacked a section of the stands where Atlas supporters were seated.
Owners of teams in the first division league were to meet Tuesday discuss the violence that marred the game.

La Fiscalía de Querétaro informó que detuvo a las primeras diez personas en relación con la trifulca del pasado sábado en el Estadio Corregidora, que dejó un saldo de 26 personas lesionadas, tres de gravedad.
Mediante un comunicado, señaló que los detenidos, todos varones, son Jesús “N”, José Alfredo “N”, Iván “N”, Jonathan Carlos “N”, Víctor “N”, Adrián “N”, Juan Manuel “N”, Eduardo “N” y Edgar Emmanuel “N”.
Además, la fiscalía señaló que dio cumplimiento a 21 órdenes de cateo otorgadas por el Juez de Control del Poder Judicial, en las que se realizaron las aprehensiones.
Las detenciones tuvieron lugar en las colonias San Pedrito Peñuelas, La Loma, Cerrito Colorado, San Idelfonso, Santa Rosa Jáuregui, Constituyentes del Parque, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Desarrollo San Pablo, La Piedad y Reforma Agraria, en la capital del Estado. Además, en las colonias La Pradera, Emiliano Zapata, San Idelfonso y El Organal, de los municipios de El Marqués, Corregidora, Colón y San Juan del Río, respectivamente.
Además, informó que en los cateos se aseguraron 82 prendas deportivas con logos del equipo de Querétaro, 4 pares de tenis -algunos con posibles manchas de sangre-, 22 teléfonos celulares y “diferentes indicios que abonarán a la continuidad de las investigaciones”.
La fiscalía analizó 583 imágenes, 78 videos y más de mil mensajes con información y denuncias anónimas al 089; además, se revisó la información proveniente de los videos de las cámaras de vigilancia del Estadio Corregidora.
