Skipknot’s founding drummer Joey Jordison dies at 46
New York City, US, Jul 27 (EFE).- Joey Jordison, founding drummer of the American heavy metal band Slipknot, has died at the age of 46, his family said.
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th,” his family in a statement.
“Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music.”
Messages of tribute flooded social media, including from heavy metal group Trivium, which described him as “super gracious.”
“His song writing and playing helped shape what metal is today,” the band wrote.
“I am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Joey Jordison,” Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo wrote. “An incredible musician and songwriter, gone way too soon.”
System of a Down’s Serj Tankian described Jordison as “an amazing drummer and guy.”
Jordison formed Slipknot in Des Moines, Iowa in 1995 with bassist Paul Gray and percussionist Shawn Crahan.
He left the group almost two decades later, in 2013, and later claimed that he had been fired.
In addition, he announced that shortly before leaving the group he was diagnosed with neurological disorder transverse myelitis, which affected his ability to play.
While he was part of Slipknot, the band’s popularity skyrocketed, repeatedly reaching the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, which they topped in 2008 with their album “All Hope is Gone.”
In addition to playing with Slipknot, Jordison formed Scar the Martyr, Vimic and Sinsaenum and continued his side project Murderdolls.
He also played drums for Metallica, Korn, Satyricon, Ministry and Rob Zombie over the years. EFE
