3 dead, 12 injured after Russia bombs school in north Ukraine

Kyiv, May 12 (EFE).- At least three people have been killed after Russian missiles struck a school in the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, the Ukrinform news agency reported Thursday.

Another 12 were injured in the attack, which took place Wednesday night.

“A Russian warplane fired missiles at secondary and boarding schools in Novhorod-Siverskyi, Chernihiv region,” Ukraine’s first lady Olena Zelenska said on her Telegram account.

“Rescuers are currently working at the scene, but three victims and 12 injured persons have already been confirmed.

“This was a deliberate bombing. The Russians, who claim to be attacking only military facilities, are waging war against our children. In fact, they are waging war against our future.”

Zelenska went on to recall that a 100-year-old gym in Lysychansk in Luhansk region had been destroyed amid Russian attacks.

She also mentioned that a school in Bilohorivka in Luhansk was hit by a bomb and reportedly left 60 civilians dead.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in late February, some 1,635 educational facilities in Ukraine have been impacted and 126 others have been completely destroyed.EFE
