Zelenskyy visits southern Mykolaiv region

Kyiv, Jun 18 (EFE).- Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Saturday troops in the Mykolaiv region, southern Ukraine, in one of the few times he has left the capital since the Russian invasion.

Zelenskyy spoke with local authorities about repairing infrastructure damaged by the war and water supply networks, the Ukrainian presidency said in a statement.

The president also visited the Mykolaiv regional administration building, which was hit on March 29 by a Russian missile that killed 37 civilians, according to local authorities.

“It is important to decide now how to help the members of these families, we must not forget them,” Zelenskyy said.

“The frontline of the Ukrainian troops in the Mykolaiv region. Our brave boys and girls. They work in full force, make every effort to defend the state. I see confidence and faith in Ukraine in their eyes. We will surely withstand! And we will surely win!” Zelenskyy posted on Facebook as cited by the Ukrinform news agency.

Mykolaiv, just 100 kilometers from occupied Kherson and on the route to the strategic port city of Odessa, has been a Russian target since the start of the invasion, the latest of which left 2 dead and about 20 wounded on Friday.

The president left Kyiv for the first time two weeks ago when he went to the eastern city of Kharkiv after which he also visited the Zaporizhia region on the southern front.EFE
