MEMPHIS, TN (WMC/LPL) — FedEx celebró el Día de la Tierra mostrando cómo la compañía se está volviendo más ecológica.
El gigante del transporte con sede en nuestra ciudad dio a conocer el primer avión que vuela con un 100% con biocombustible.
La tecnología de vanguardia se llama ecoDemonstrator. Aterrizó en FedEx World Hub hoy para marcar la ocasión.
“Este es un gran testimonio de la gran asociación que tenemos con FedEx, para trabajar juntos para innovar, colaborar e inspirar realmente la acción en el medio ambiente”, dijo Jeanne Yu, Directora de Innovación Tecnológica de Boeing.
“Fundamentalmente, todo lo que hemos hecho ha sido sobre innovación y ADN”, dijo el CEO de FedEx Express, David Cunningham. “Del modelo que Fred creó hace años, a la tecnología que desplegamos en términos de escaneo de paquetes, siendo el primero en hacerlo”.
Los miembros del equipo de FedEx y los embajadores de STEM de la Universidad de Memphis recorrieron el nuevo Boeing 777-200 Freighter construido para FedEx Express.
FedEx estableció la meta de que el 30 por ciento de su flota utilizará biocombustibles para el año 2030.
El ecoDemonstrator y otros avances en biocombustibles son parte de una tecnología emergente que podría reducir los costos y cambiar el futuro de la aviación.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — FedEx celebrated Earth Day by showing off how the company is becoming more eco-friendly.
The Memphis-based shipping giant unveiled the first plane to fly 100 percent on biofuel.
The cutting-edge technology is called the ecoDemonstrator. It touched down at FedEx World Hub on Monday to mark the occasion.
“It’s such a great testament to the great partnership we have with FedEx, to work together to innovate, collaborate, and really inspire action on environment,” Boeing Director of Technology Innovation Jeanne Yu said.
“Fundamentally everything that we’ve done has been about innovation and DNA,” FedEx Express CEO David Cunningham said. “From the model that Fred created years ago, to the technology that we deployed in terms of scanning packages–being the first to do that.”
FedEx team members and University of Memphis STEM ambassadors toured the new Boeing 777-200 Freighter built for FedEx Express.
FedEx set a goal that 30 percent of its fleet will be using biofuels by 2030.
The ecoDemonstrator and other biofuel advances are part of an emerging technology that could cut costs and change the future of aviation.
