Hundreds of migrants rescued in central Mediterranean

Rome, Nov 21 (EFE).- Hundreds of migrants have been rescued in the central Mediterranean over the weekend.

The Sea Watch rescue vessel on Sunday rescued 102 migrants travelling on an inflatable boat that had begun to sink.

“With them, there are now 295 guests on board our ship, for whom we now need a safe port as quickly as possible!” the German NGO posted to its Twitter account.

The Italian Coast Guard on Saturday rescued migrants from two separate boats, one carrying 70 people and the other, a fishing boat, carrying 350.

The coast guard guided the first boat to port on the Italian island of Lampedusa while another patrol vessel transported the 350 migrants from the fishing boat to Sicily.

On Saturday, the International Organization for Migration announced that at least 75 migrants had drowned off Libya’s east coast, according to 15 survivors. EFE
