Sweden overcome Lewandowski double to beat Poland, win group

Sports Desk, Jun 23 (EFE).- Robert Lewandowski’s brace Wednesday wasn’t enough to keep Poland in Euro 2020 as Sweden prevailed 3-2 to win Group E and send the Poles home.

Emil Forsberg scored in the 2nd minute to put already qualified Sweden up 1-0 over the White Eagles, who needed a win to have any chance of staying in the competition.

Lewandowski, winner of the European Golden Shoe with 48 goals in 40 matches for Bayern Munich last season, failed to score on successive chances in the 18th minute and the contest looked to be settled when Forsberg added a second goal right before the hour mark.

But Poland were back in the game two minutes later with a goal from Lewandowski, who got the equalizer in the 84th to raise hopes of a fairytale finish, shattered by Viktor Claesson’s goal for the Swedes in stoppage time. EFE io/dr
