The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, in partnership with Latin GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Noel Schajris, invested $40,000 in an educational experience that includes a donation of musical instruments to Overton High School in Memphis. The program, held on Tuesday, February 27th, featured a musical performance by the Sin Bandera duo singer-songwriter and a Q&A session with Noel, moderated by Jessica Rodríguez, co-host of Univision’s highest-rated morning show, “Despierta América.”
The Overton High School band echoed through the auditorium as they began to play a melody known to the Latin American audience, the song “Sentimental” by Mexican singer Joan Sebastián, thus giving a Hispanic touch to the event.
Among the personalities present was Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris.
In an inspiring speech, Schajris addressed the youth with great enthusiasm and energy, advising them on sensitivity, making good decisions, and focusing on living a fulfilling life.
Together with the band director Juan Sebastián Valdez, Overton High School principal Reginald R. Williams Sr., and presenter Jessica Rodríguez, Noel Schajris presented the musical instruments that will be used to prepare future stars.
In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina Media, Noel Schajris says, “It’s an enormous emotion to be, for the first time in my life, in a city that has brutally influenced my music because the music historically generated in this city, like Blues, Rock and Roll. Everything here has influenced me greatly all my life, and you constantly hear it throughout the city. There is also something very vibrant in Memphis; there is a lot of desire, a lot of passion, obviously as reflected historically in the city’s music scene, as in what was experienced at this event at Overton High School.”
The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established by the Latin Recording Academy in 2014 to promote international music and awareness and appreciation of the significant contributions of Latin music and its culture creators worldwide. The Foundation provides scholarships, educational programs, and grants for research and preservation of its rich musical legacy and heritage. It has donated over $9.3 million to date with the support of members, artists, corporate sponsors, and other generous donors.

Nahuel Schajris Rodríguez, better known as Noel Schajris, is an Argentine-Mexican singer, songwriter, and pianist based in Mexico who experienced success on the charts as part of the Sin Bandera duo.
Schajris began his solo career in 2009 with the release of his first full-length album, “Uno No Es Uno,” which was met with commercial and critical success. It reached number 10 on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart and number 27 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.
Since starting his solo career in 2009, Schajris has continued to create music for his worldwide audience, delighting them with his romantic ballads. With six albums released during his solo career, he has sold over 25 million records worldwide and 1 million concert tickets. This year he will restart his Frequency Tour, with almost all tickets sold out, and will perform some concerts with Leonel García as part of Sin Bandera. El programa, celebrado el martes, 27 de febrero, contó con una actuación musical del cantautor del dueto Sin Bandera y una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con Noel, moderada por Jessica Rodríguez, copresentadora del programa matutino de mayor audiencia de Univisión, “Despierta América”.
La banda musical de Overton High School hizo retumbar el auditorio de la escuela cuando comenzaron a entonar una melodía conocida por el público latinoamericano, la canción “Sentimental” del cantante mexicano Joan Sebastián, dándole así un toque hispano al evento.
Entre las personalidades presentes en el lugar estuvo el alcalde del condado de Shelby Lee Harris.
Con un discurso motivador, Schajris se dirigió a los jóvenes con mucho entusiasmo y energía, dándoles consejos sobre la sensibilidad, buenas decisiones y enfocarse a vivir una vida plena.
Junto al director de la banda musical Juan Sebastián Valdez, el director de la escuela Overton High, Reginald R. Williams Sr., y la presentadora Jessica Rodríguez, Noel Schajris presentó los instrumentos musicales que servirán para preparar futuras estrellas.
En una entrevista exclusiva para la Prensa Latina Media, Noel Schajris dice que “es una emoción enorme estar, por primera vez en mi vida, en una ciudad que ha influenciado mi música de manera brutal, porque la música que se ha generado históricamente en esta ciudad, como el Blues, el Rock and Roll. Todo lo que hay aquí me ha influenciado mucho toda mi vida y lo escuchas constantemente en toda la ciudad. También se siente algo muy vibrante en Memphis, se siente muchas ganas, mucha pasión, obviamente como lo que refleja la ciudad a nivel musical históricamente, como lo que se vivió en este evento en la Overton High School.”
