Palestinian killed in Israeli army operation in West Bank

Jerusalem, Apr 9 (EFE).- A Palestinian man on Saturday was shot dead by the Israeli army in a West Bank refugee camp as part of a wide-scale operation following a deadly shooting in Tel Aviv two days ago.

The Palestinian health ministry reported that a young man died in hospital after being shot in the head and chest, while 13 other Palestinians were wounded by gunshots.

The casualties’ occurred after troops and the Israel Border Police members into the Jenin refugee camp, which was where the perpetrator of Thursday’s attack that killed three Israelis and wounded over 10 lived.

The Israeli operation led to an armed confrontation with local groups, according to an Israeli spokesman.

Two Palestinians exchanged fire with the Israeli forces, one of whom was an operative of the Palestinian Islamist group Islamic Jihad and was killed, the Israeli military said.

Another member of the organization who was shot was arrested, as were two people over suspicions of participating in terror activity, the source added.

Soldiers carried out a raid on the attacker’s home “to analyze its possible demolition.”

Thursday’s attack in Tel Aviv was the fourth shooting in Israel in just over two weeks, causing a total of 14 deaths, which have spiked tensions in the country and put it on high alert. EFE
