Spain marks National Day with military parade

Madrid, Oct 12 (EFE).- Spain held a military parade in the capital Madrid on Tuesday to mark its National Day, after the celebration was canceled last year due to Covid-19.

The event marks the arrival of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus in the Americas on October 12, 1492.

“This October 12, let’s claim what unites us, what makes us great as a society, what makes Spain a welcoming, open, diverse country. Let’s celebrate our commitment, solidarity, cooperation, multilateralism. Let’s celebrate who we are,” Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez wrote on Twitter.

Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as well as Sanchez and other government officials, attended the parade, in central Madrid.

Following the event, a reception will take place at the Royal Palace.EFE
