Spain recognizes social commitment of Guatemala’s Cervecería Centro Americana

Guatemala City, Oct 4 (EFE).- Spain has awarded a distinction to the Guatemalan multinational Cervecería Centro Americana for their economic and social contribution to the Central American country throughout its history.

Spanish Ambassador José María Laviña presented the Plaque of Honor of the Royal Order of Civil Merit of the Kingdom of Spain to the Guatemalan company on Tuesday.

With this recognition, Spain acknowledges the commitment of Cervecería Centro Americana to the economic development of the country, according to a statement issued by the Guatemalan company.

“This recognition not only validates our business efforts but also highlights our social responsibility,” said the president of Cervecería Centro Americana, Juan Monge Calderón.

The Royal Order of Civil Merit was established by Spain in 1926 to reward the civic virtues of public and private players in society.

COMMITMENT TO NUTRITION

According to the brewery, the distinction is a tribute to its 137 years of history since its foundation in Guatemala, during which it has carried out various social programs.

In 2023, Cervecería Centro Americana launched an initiative called “Guatemalans for Nutrition,” to combat child malnutrition in the northwest of the country.

For this project, the company earmarked an investment of around US$15 million.

“We receive this award on behalf of the more than 1,300 shareholders and 20,000 employees that make up the family of Cervecería Centro Americana,” concluded Monge.

For its part, the Spanish Embassy in Guatemala officially highlighted that the award for Cervecería Centro Americana is due to its “high commitment to corporate social responsibility and exemplary support to Spain.”
