Alnoso: F1 is a non-stop competition, every rest day is gold

La Morgal, Spain, Dec 22 (EFE).- Formula One driver Fernando Alonso on Wednesday said he had decided to return to the circuit this year because he had the strength to embrace the non-stop competition.

After a two-year Formula One hiatus in which he tried his luck in other car racing modalities, Alonso decided to come back to the tournament he won twice, ending his returning season in the 10th spot.

“When I decided to come back (to F1), it was because I felt I had the energy and the desire to enjoy it again, both on and off the track, ready to embrace everything that comes with F1, which is sacrifice and total dedication,” the Alpine F1 driver said.

Alonso, who has returned home to the northwestern Spanish region of Asturias, said he was looking forward to disconnecting ahead of the upcoming season.

The 40-year-old has a 10-day break before getting back to business on 4 January.

Until then, he will focus on “trying to disconnect and recharge batteries, but always with an eye on 2022,” adding that “every day of rest is gold.”

Alonso made these remarks after a ceremony in which he added his Toyota Hilux, in which he made his Dakar Rally debut in 2020, to a museum named after him.

The Fernando Alonso Museum and Circuit is being expanded to accommodate all the prototypes with which Fernando Alonso has developed his sporting career, from Formula One to the FIA World Endurance Championship and Dakar. EFE
