Spain’s Pedri wins Golden Boy 2021 award

Rome, Nov 22 (EFE).- Midfielder Pedri won the Golden Boy 2021 award Monday following a break-out season in which he established himself in Barcelona’s starting XI, made it to the semi-finals with Spain in the Euros and won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The 18-year-old succeeded Erling Haaland, who won the award given to the best under-21 player of the year by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, in 2020.

Born in Tenerife in 2002, Pedri burst on the scene this year and is widely regarded as one of the most promising rising stars in the sport with a technical ability and vision beyond his years.

He recently renewed his contract with Barcelona, an agreement that included a record one billion euro release clause. He joined Barcelona from Las Palmas for an estimated 5 million euros in 2020. EFE
