Russia stockpiling missiles to hit Ukraine’s energy system in winter, says Zelenskyy

Kyiv, Nov 15 (EFE).- Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again warned on Wednesday that Russia is stockpiling missiles to repeat last fall and winter’s bombing campaigns against Ukraine’s electrical and thermal infrastructure that left thousands in the cold without light and electricity.

“I reminded the German-Ukrainian Municipal Partnerships Conference that the second winter of this full-scale war is approaching. Russia is stockpiling missiles to attack Ukraine’s energy system, as it did last year,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Zelenskyy thanked Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and “all Germans” for their assistance in strengthening the country’s air defenses.

This week Germany announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth 1 billion euros that includes new means of anti-aircraft defense, crucial to reducing the vulnerability of its power systems.

Russia attacked Kyiv again last weekend after a long pause that many attribute to its intention to stockpile missiles to carry out large attacks when temperatures drop further. EFE
