Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho visits son in Thai prison for first time

Koh Samui, Thailand, Sep 6 (EFE).- Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho on Wednesday for the first time visited his son Daniel Sancho in prison on the Thai island of Samui.
Daniel Sancho, 29, has been in pre-trial detention on the tourist island since Aug. 7, following his arrest on the neighboring island of Koh Phangan over the murder of 44-year-old Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta.
His father arrived at the Samui prison around 8.50 am (GMT+7) on Wednesday accompanied by Spanish lawyer Marcos García Montes and was inside for about three hours.
After his visit, the actor said that the first thing he wanted to do was to express his “deepest condolences” to Arrieta’s family.
In line with the statements he made to EFE on Tuesday, the actor also wanted to show his respect for Thai Justice and said he was waiting for the police investigation report, adding that “until that moment we can’t do anything else.”
Sancho, who arrived in Thailand on Sunday, said it was the last time he would speak and told reporters waiting outside the prison that he would appreciate it if they left.
“They think I’m down on the ground. That’s not me. There are two ways of taking things in life: either as a misfortune or as a challenge. They’re not going to get tears,” said the 48-year-old actor, who refused to answer questions he classified as personal.
Regular Samui prison visits by family and friends usually last 15 minutes, but Sancho was able to spend more time with his son Wednesday because he was accompanied by lawyers, who are given more time to meet with prisoners.
Daniel Sancho’s mother Silvia Bronchalo has been on Samui since Aug. 17 and has visited him almost daily amid huge media interest. EFE
