Spanish minister pays tribute to Maria Jimenez following her demise

Brussels, Sep 7 (EFE).- The acting Minister of Culture and Sport of Spain, Miquel Iceta, on Thursday paid tribute in Brussels to the singer Maria Jimenez, following her demise early this morning in Seville.
“Recalling Maria Jimenez, who did so many things, was a pioneer, was brave and was one of the first to put music to ‘Se acabó’ (It’s Over), defending the fight for equality against all violence against women,” Iceta told the media.
Se acabó was one of the major hits of Maria Jimenez and considered a cry against machismo and marital abuse.
The minister was in Brussels to appear before the European Parliament and explain the priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the European Council.
In a previous statement, signed jointly with the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music, Iceta had expressed his grief at “the loss of the great Maria Jimenez” and her large contribution to music and society in Spain. EFE
