‘100% result’: Zelenskyy hails Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defenses

Kyiv, May 25 (EFE).- Ukraine’s president on Thursday celebrated the effectiveness of his army’s anti-aircraft defenses after they shot down all 36 Shahed attack drones that Russia launched from the north and south of the country.

“Not an easy night. Continuing to terrorize Ukraine, the enemy used 36 Shaheds. None of them reached the target. Thanks to our air defense forces for the 100% result,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

Most of the drones were directed against critical infrastructure and military facilities in regions of western Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Since October, Russia has used hundreds of Iran-made Shahed drones to attack electrical infrastructure and other targets of critical importance to Ukraine.

Millions of Ukrainians spent part of the winter without electricity due to the destruction caused by the drones and Russian missiles fired at Ukrainian power plants.

Thanks in part to air defense systems received from its Western allies, and the experience of the Ukrainian military in dealing with this threat, Ukraine now shoots down most of the drones that Russia launches almost every night.

According to some experts, Russia sometimes uses these relatively cheap drones to force Ukraine to expend much more expensive ammunition to shoot them down. EFE
