Spanish tourist drowns in Bali after being hit by sea current

Jakarta, Jun 12 (EFE).- A 36-year-old Spanish tourist drowned after being overpowered by a sea current in the Indonesian island of Bali, local authorities said on Monday.

The Spaniard was swimming along with a woman from his country around 4.30 pm on Sunday at the Nunggalan beach, situated in Bali’s far south, when they called out for help, according to the sequence of events offered by the police in Denpasar, the island’s capital.

Other people present on the beach jumped in the water to help the tourists and managed to rescue the woman alive, however they were unable to resuscitate the man despite carrying out emergency first aid procedures for half an hour, the police statement said.

A rescue team was dispatched to Nunggalan, a little-visited beach which is difficult to reach, to evacuate the dead body, according to the Indonesian national search and rescue agency (Basarnas).

Basarnas said that the survivor was out of danger and did not require hospitalization. EFE
