St. Jude busca recaudar más de $11 millones a través de Promesa y Esperanza este año

St. Jude Looks to Raise More than $11 Million through Promise and Hope Program this Year

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — El St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital busca recaudar en el 2018 más de $11 millones a través de su programa anual de “Promesa y Esperanza”, cuyo seminario más reciente fue llevado a cabo el fin de semana pasado (19 y 20 de enero).

Como tal, “Promesa y Esperanza” es un programa de radio-maratón que se organiza cada año para recaudar fondos y crear conciencia acerca de la importante misión del St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital en la comunidad hispana alrededor del país.

Desde sus inicios en 1997, “Promesa y Esperanza” ha logrado recaudar más de 130 millones de dólares a beneficio de los niños del hospital. Este año, el seminario tuvo un éxito total, ya que contó con la asistencia de 300 representantes latinos y grandes personalidades de radio, televisión y medios digitales, así como de ejecutivos de compañías discográficas, socios corporativos y voluntarios. Representantes de La Prensa Latina y Radio Ambiente también hicieron acto de presencia para ayudar con la noble causa del St. Jude, que es luchar contra el cáncer infantil y otras enfermedades terminales.

Entre las famosas celebridades latinas estuvieron Alan Ramírez & Oswaldo Silvas, de Banda MS; Jon Secada; Angie, Gus & Abelardo, de Vázquez Sounds; Horacio Palencia; Tony Meléndez Jr.; Tony Dandrades, de Primer Impacto; Oliver Ortiz y Banda La Maravillosa. El Dr. César Lozano fue el invitado especial como orador. Todos ellos visitaron el hospital y Target House con el propósito de aprender cómo es que el St. Jude trabaja arduamente, día y noche, para salvar las vidas de niños que sufren de terribles enfermedades como la leucemia en EE.UU. y el mundo entero. En Target House, vieron cómo las familias de los pacientes tienen todas las comodidades de un hogar sin tener que pagar absolutamente por nada, ni siquiera por el tratamiento de sus hijos.

Actualmente, “Promesa y Esperanza” cuenta con la participación de más de 100 estaciones de radio latinas, provenientes de 50 mercados a nivel nacional (Memphis, Miami, Nueva York, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Los Ángeles, San Francisco, Puerto Rico, etc.), incluyendo a Univision Communications, Inc., Telemundo, Bustos Media, Red Wolf, TBLC Media y Radio Ambiente 1030, entre otros.

Radio Ambiente 1030, por su parte, ha formado parte de “Promesa y Esperanza” desde 1999. “Mas allá de la satisfacción de poder ayudar y de servir, es un compromiso… Es un compromiso porque sabemos la labor que hace St. Jude y creo que nosotros tenemos el compromiso de ser, a través de la radio, los portavoces del trabajo que hace el St. Jude y de transmitirlo a nuestros radioescuchas para poder ayudar más. Es un compromiso de amor con St. Jude”, dijo Ivette Butrón, gerente general de la estación de radio latina de Memphis.

Según el St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, “cada año, millones de radioescuchas aprenden de las palabras de locutores, se inspiran del trabajo de cientos de voluntarios y donan para contribuir a la misión de St. Jude. Nuestros pacientes también tienen la oportunidad de contar sus conmovedoras historias, y comparten lo que St. Jude representa en sus vidas. Un niño salvado en St. Jude significa que médicos y científicos en todo el mundo pueden utilizar ese conocimiento para salvar a miles de niños más. Por esta razón, tu donativo el día de hoy es muy importante”.

El Hospital St. Jude es el único Centro Integral para el Cáncer designado por el Instituto Nacional del Cáncer (National Cancer Institute) exclusivamente dedicado a los niños. Los tratamientos desarrollados en St. Jude han ayudado a incrementar la tasa global de supervivencia del cáncer infantil de un 20 por ciento a un 80 por ciento, y todo desde que el hospital abrió sus puertas hace más de 50 años.

“Si bien hemos logrado un gran progreso desde 1962, cuando la tasa de supervivencia infantil en general era solo del 20%, aún queda mucho trabajo por hacer. Entre 180.000 y 240.000 niños de todo el mundo serán diagnosticados con cáncer este año, muchos de ellos no tendrán acceso a tratamiento o cuidado adecuado. Y en nuestro propio país, uno de cada cinco niños diagnosticados con cáncer perderá su batalla”, dijo Richard Shadyac, director ejecutivo de ALSAC. “La facultad y el personal del St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital están dedicados a cambiar esas estadísticas y encontrar la cura para las enfermedades que amenazan la vida de los niños de todo el mundo. Cabe destacar que Radio Ambiente 1030 logró recaudar $50.167 para el St. Jude en el 2017, y espera que este año dicha cifra sea superior.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital aims to raise more than $11 million in 2018 through its annual “Promesa y Esperanza” (Promise and Hope) program, which seminar was recently held last weekend (January 19 and January 20).

As such, “Promesa y Esperanza” is a radiothon program that is organized every year to raise funds and awareness about the important mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the Hispanic community around the country.

Since its inception in 1997, “Promesa y Esperanza” has managed to raise over $130 million for the benefit of the hospital’s kids. This year, the seminar was a total success, as it was attended by 300 Latino representatives of radio, television and digital media, as well as celebrities, executives of record companies, corporate partners and volunteers. Representatives of La Prensa Latina and Radio Ambiente also made an appearance to help with the noble cause of St. Jude, which is to fight against childhood cancer and other terminal illnesses.

Alan Ramirez & Oswaldo Silvas, from Banda MS, were among the famous Latin celebrities that attended the seminar, as well as Jon Secada; Angie, Gus & Abelardo, from Vazquez Sounds; Horacio Palencia; Tony Melendez Jr.; Tony Dandrades, from Primer Impacto; Oliver Ortiz and Banda La Maravillosa. Dr. César Lozano was the special guest speaker. They all visited the hospital and Target House to learn how St. Jude works hard, day and night, to save the lives of children that are suffering from terminal illnesses like leukemia in the U.S. and the whole world. At Target House, they saw how the families of the patients have all the comforts of a home without having to pay for anything, not even for the treatment of their children.

Currently, “Promesa y Esperanza” has the participation of more than 100 Latin radio stations, from 50 markets nationwide (Memphis, Miami, New York, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Puerto Rico, etc.), including Univision Communications, Inc., Telemundo, Bustos Media, Red Wolf, TBLC Media, and Radio Ambiente 1030, among others.

Radio Ambiente 1030, in fact, has been part of “Promesa y Esperanza” since 1999. “Beyond the satisfaction of being able to help and serve, it is a commitment… It is a commitment because we know the work that St. Jude does, and I believe that we have the commitment to be, through the radio, the spokespeople of the work that St. Jude does and to transmit it to our listeners, so we can help more. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the only Comprehensive Center for Cancer designated by the National Cancer Institute exclusively dedicated to children. The treatments developed at St. Jude have helped increase the overall survival rate of childhood cancer from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened its doors more than 50 years ago.

“While we have made great progress since opening in 1962 — when the overall childhood survival rate was just 20% — there is still much work to be done. Between 180,000 and 240,000 children across the globe will be diagnosed with cancer this year, many of them without access to adequate treatment or care.
