St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer 2018: Todos Unidos por los niños del St. Jude / All United for the Children of St. Jude

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Septiembre es el “Mes de Concientización del Cáncer Infantil”, por lo que el St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital te invita a participar en uno de sus eventos más importantes del año, el “St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer” (Caminata/Carrera del St. Jude Contra el Cáncer Infantil). Dicho acontecimiento tendrá lugar el sábado, 22 de septiembre, a las 9 AM, en el campus del hospital, ubicado en el 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. La inscripción es a las 7 AM y el inicio de la carrera/caminata es a las 9 AM.

Más de 12 mil personas se darán cita en este maratón, no sólo para unirse en la lucha contra el cáncer infantil, entre otras enfermedades crónicas, sino para ayudar a recaudar fondos para el hospital y, más que nada, por amor a los niños.

La comunidad latina de Memphis también se une a esta causa tan noble. De hecho, hay un grupo llamado “Latinos Unidos por St. Jude”, coordinado por Dorimar Ferrer y Sofía Arreola, que se ha encargado de organizar diferentes actividades en la comunidad para recaudar fondos para el St. Jude y para que la gente se inscriba en la Caminata/Carrera del St. Jude Contra el Cáncer Infantil.

Hasta el momento, “Latinos Unidos por St. Jude” ha logrado inscribir a más de 138 participantes en el evento, entre personas individuales y subgrupos -algunos de estos subgrupos son Cazateatro, Dar Salud, Salón de Belleza Imagen Latina, Ultra Nutrición y Tienda San José. También han podido recaudar la cantidad de $3.359, pero esperan poder alcanzar su meta que es llegar a los $7000 antes del 22 de septiembre.

Para conseguir su objetivo, “Latinos Unidos por St. Jude” tendrá otro evento de Zumba (Zumba Fitness por St. Jude) el sábado, 8 de septiembre, de 9 AM a 12 PM, en el 3125 S. Mendenhall, Memphis, TN 38115. El costo de la clase de Zumba es de $10, pero si uno desea inscribirse también en el “St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer”, entonces habría que pagar $20.

Para inscribirse directamente con el St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, los precios varían, ya que serían $10 para la caminata y $20 para la carrera 5K (no competitiva); los niños menores de 5 años participan gratis. Los participantes también pueden formar equipos y recaudar fondos para ayudar a apoyar la importantísima misión de salvar vidas del St. Jude.

El St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital hace todo lo posible por salvar a miles de niños alrededor del mundo. Gracias a sus investigaciones y tratamientos, el índice de supervivencia general del cáncer infantil ha sido elevado del 20% a un 80% desde que el hospital abrió sus puertas hace más de 50 años (en 1962).

Cabe destacar que el St. Jude comparte libremente sus descubrimientos con médicos y científicos alrededor del mundo, de manera que ellos puedan utilizar ese conocimiento para salvar a otros niños.

The Hispanic community of Memphis is also joining this noble cause. As a matter of fact, there is a group called “Latinos Unidos por St. Jude” (Latinos United for St. Jude). Coordinated by Dorimar Ferrer and Sofía Arreola, this group has been responsible for organizing different activities in the community to raise funds for St. Jude and to register people in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer.
