Lisandro Martinez joins Manchester United on 5-year contract

Sports Desk, Jul 27 (EFE).- Lisandro Martinez joined Manchester United on a five-year contract on a transfer from Ajax, the club announced Wednesday.

“Lisandro Martinez has completed his transfer from Ajax to Manchester United, signing a contract until June 2027, with the option to extend for a further year,” the Premier League club said in a statement.

Although the Red Devils did not provide further details, Ajax said it had agreed “a transfer fee of € 57.37 million with the English club. Including variables, that amount could increase to € 67.37 million.”

“It’s an honour to join this great football club,” the 24-year-old said. “I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further.”

“I want to thank Ajax and their fans for all the support they gave me,” the Argentine defender said about the club he joined in 2019 on a transfer from Defensa y Justicia.

“I had an unbelievable time there but feel the moment is right to test myself in another environment. Now I am at the perfect club to do this,” he added.

Martinez helped Ajax win two Dutch Leagues and one Dutch Cup. He also was part of the Argentina team that won the 2021 Copa America.

“We are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United and we are looking forward to seeing him develop further and help the team achieve the success we are aiming for,” Manchester United football director John Murtough said. EFE
