Man Utd shut training ground due to Covid-19 outbreak

London, Dec 13 (EFE).- Manchester United on Monday announced a 24-hour closure of its first-team facilities after a coronavirus outbreak and are in talks with the Premier League to postpone their game against Brentford.

A group of Manchester United players has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Tuesday’s game.

The players tested positive before a training session on Sunday at Carrington, Manchester United’s training ground, while all were negative before the clash with Norwich City a day earlier.

“Manchester United can confirm that following PCR test confirmation of yesterday’s positive LFT Covid-19 cases among the first team staff and players,” the club said in a statement.

“The decision has been taken to close down first team operations at the Carrington Training Complex for 24 hours, to minimize risk of any further infection,” it read.

Talks are underway to determine whether or not to go ahead with Tuesday’s game as scheduled, according to the statement.

This is the third Covid-19 outbreak in the Premier League in recent weeks; Tottenham Hotspur had eight players infected leading to the postponement of matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Rennes, while Leicester City was able to go ahead with its matches after some players tested positive.

Last week the number of positive cases in the league was 12, the highest since mid-August. EFE
