China confirms Russian PM’s visit next week

Beijing, May 19 (EFE).- Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is scheduled to visit China between May 23-24, the foreign ministry in Beijing confirmed Friday.

“Mishustin’s visit will further deepen bilateral cooperation, cultural exchanges and inject impetus to global economic recovery,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said.

“Russia is China’s largest neighbor and a major emerging market, and the cooperation between China and Russia has strong resilience, sufficient potential and great space,” he said.

Wang said Mishustin would visit Beijing and Shanghai where he would meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese President invited Mishustin to visit China “as soon as possible” during his official visit to Moscow in March-end.

During the visit, Xi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, signed a joint declaration and a series of documents to deepen “strategic cooperation” and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

During the meetings, Xi received the Kremlin’s support for China’s peace plan for Ukraine after Putin termed it as “a basis” for a peaceful settlement for the Ukraine war. EFE
