Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson test positive for COVID-19

Los Angeles, US, Mar 11 (efe-epa).- American actor Tom Hanks confirmed Wednesday that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Australia.

The actor announced the diagnosis on his social media profiles and assured that they will remain isolated and under medical observation.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too,” Hanks wrote in a post alongside a photograph showing a latex glove in a waste bin.

“To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” he said.

The announcement by the celebrity came at exactly the same time that US President Donald Trump addressed the country from the White House with a broadcast during prime time in which he announced, among other measures, the suspension of all flights from the Europe Union to the US for 30 days.

“Well, now. What to do next?” Hanks asked. “The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”

Hanks promised that he will “keep the world updated,” as he is one of the first in the entertainment world to make it known publicly that he has the virus, which was Wednesday declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

The couple is in Australia for the production of a biographical film about Elvis Presley directed by Baz Luhrmann, in which Hanks will play the music idol’s representative.

Hollywood and the US entertainment industry has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, including the postponement of the premiere of the latest James Bond film, as well as the famous Coachella music festival.

On the other hand, Disney’s “Mulan” is still scheduled for release later this month in theaters, except in Asia. EFE-EPA
