Jason Reitman takes over father’s Ghostbusters legacy

Los Angeles, Nov 14 (EFE).- Canadian filmmaker Jason Reitman has taken over his father’s, Ivan Reitman, legacy of the Ghostbusters with a new chapter of the supernatural comedy film saga.

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ is a movie about a family, a mother and her two sons, who move to a new town and discover they are connected to the original Ghostbusters.

“There is nothing more primary of family, our understanding of each other, our parents and of our children, this is a movie that I made for my father and for my daughter,” the director told Efe.

Owner of an admirable filmography marked by humanism, sensitivity and affection for his characters, the director directed in the excellent “Juno” (2007) and “Up in the Air” (2009) for which he was nominated for four Oscars.

The son of Ivan Reitman said he never felt an urgency to answer the call of Ghostbusters but always wondered what it would be like to direct one.

“The ghosts are representative of all the things we need to deal with in our lives. Obviously, the big shadow that loomed over me was whether or not I would ever direct a ‘Ghostbusters’ movie,” he admitted.

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ follows the narrative of the saga while adding new elements to the story.

“We wanted to take the movie to a new place, we wanted to make it about new characters, the original was always about,” Reitman said.

“We wanted to expand on everything you know about Ghostbusters (…) In this film we have the physical ghosts but we also have the metaphorical ones.”

The cast of the new movie reunites the original Ghostbusters cast members including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
