Suicide bomber kills 2 in Pakistan’s tribal region

Islamabad, Dec 15 (EFE).- A suicide bomber on a motorcycle has killed at least two people, including a soldier, in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal district near the border with Afghanistan, a military statement said on Thursday.

Nine civilians suffered wounds in the bombing that shook parts of Miran Shah along the Pak-Afghan border region on Wednesday, the army’s media wing said.

But the police said seven soldiers and five civilians received injuries in the attack when the suicide bomber drove his motorbike near a military convoy and triggered the explosive.

The military statement said Havaldar Muhammad Ameer and a civilian lost their lives.

“Two people were killed and seven soldiers and five civilians were wounded when,” a police officer told EFE on condition of anonymity.

The officer said the convoy was moving from Banda Fort to Miran Shah.

No militant group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident came two weeks after the insurgent group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire agreement it had reached with the government in June.

The militant group said decided to withdraw from the truce after military operations against the Taliban continued in different areas of the country.

Last month, a Taliban suicide bomber crashed his explosive-laden car into a police truck escorting a polio vaccination team in Pakistan’s Quetta, killing a child and one officer.

The militant group has been fighting Pakistani forces to topple the central government in Islamabad and impose its brand of Islamic law.

Pakistan has seen an increase in militant activities since the Afghan Taliban took power in neighboring Afghanistan last year,

The TTP has carried out numerous attacks killing thousands of citizens and security forces in the country since its emergence in 2007. EFE
