Suspects Arrested and Charged for Aggravated Assault on an Officer

MEMPHIS, TN (MPD) — On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 12:27 am, officers with the Auto Theft Task Force and the SCORPION unit were engaged in an operation in the 40 block of Otsego Drive. An officer in an unmarked vehicle drove by and was followed from the area by two males in a 2012 Infiniti sedan. The suspects located the vehicle occupied by the officer at Van Huesen Drive and Deneen Drive. Both suspects were armed and fired multiple rounds striking the officer and a home that was occupied in the 90 block of West Van Huesen Drive. The wounded officer was able to flee from the area and was taken to Regional One by additional MPD officers.

Additional officers began searching for the suspects and located the Infiniti occupied by three suspects in the 4100 block of Hillgate Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. Officers pursued the suspects with the assistance of the Aviation Unit. The car finally came to a halt at Deertrail Lane and Deertrail Cove. The three males ran from the vehicle with weapons into a wooded area. Officers set a parameter and took all three suspects into custody in the 4500 block of Sunvalley Drive. All guns were recovered. The Infiniti was stolen.

At 12:35 pm, while responding to help the injured officer, another officer was involved in a crash at Horn Lake Road and West Geeter Road. The officer was northbound on Horn Lake Road, operating in emergency mode. A Hyundai sedan was southbound on Horn Lake Road when the driver turned in front of the officer traveling eastbound on West Geeter Road. The vehicles collided. The officer was taken to Regional One Hospital non-critical, and the driver of the Hyundai was transported critical.

The officer that was shot has been released from the hospital. The officer in the crash remains in stable condition, and the driver of the Hyundai remains in critical condition.

Keyon Moore, 19, was charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Reckless Endangerment, Deployment of a Firearm during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Aggravated Assault against a First Responder, Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (2X), Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest on Foot.

Zancarrion Johnson, 18, was charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Reckless Endangerment, Deployment of a Firearm during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Aggravated Assault against a First Responder, Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (2X), Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest on Foot. Johnson also had warrants for Burglary and Evading Arrest.

Kayvus Jones, 23, was charged with Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (2X), Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest on Foot.
