Bryan Adams apologizes over vicious coronavirus rant

Toronto, Canada, May 12 (efe-epa).- Rockstar Bryan Adams apologized on Tuesday after taking to social media and launching a vicious attack over the origins of the coronavirus and blaming the Chinese over the cancellation of a London concert.

“I apologize to anyone who was offended by my post yesterday,” Adams said on Instagram on Tuesday.

“No excuse, I just wanted to have a rant about the horrible animal cruelty in these wet markets being the possible source of the virus, and promote veganism.

“I have love for all people and my thoughts are with everyone dealing with this pandemic around the world,” he added.

His Monday post addressed the fact that a three-night residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall was cancelled as a result of measures in place to contain the spread of Covid-19, but it triggered outrage with many accusing the Canadian of launching a racist tirade against Chinese people.

“Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs… but thanks to some [expletive] bat-eating, wet-market animal-selling, virus-making greedy [expletives], the whole world is now on hold, not to mention the thousands that have suffered or died from this virus,” Adams posted.

“My message to them other than ‘thanks a [expletive] lot’ is go vegan,” the singer, who stopped eating meat and dairy products in 1989, added.

The singer of (Everything I Do) I Do It For You and All for Love has received a barrage of criticism from the Chinese-Canadian community which in the recent months has suffered myriad acts of violence across the country.

Amy Go, president of the Chinese Canadian National Council for Social Justice, accused Adams of fuelling racist attitudes and conspiracies about the origin of the virus.

“This is so irresponsible and just so, so, so, so racist,” Go told Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
