Russia wants to host Euro 2028 or 2032

Madrid, Mar 23 (EFE).- Russia, banned from the UEFA and FIFA competitions after the invasion of Ukraine, has shown interest to host the Euro in 2028 or 2032, UEFA confirmed on Wednesday.

“Russia and Turkey declared their interest in hosting either the 2028 or 2032 edition of UEFA’s flagship national team competition,” the continental governing body said in a statement.

FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian teams – national teams and clubs – on 28 February a few days after Moscow began its invasion of Ukraine. Russia will not be allowed to participate in their competitions until further notice.

However, there are no sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation, which is bidding to host the European Championship.

UEFA relocated the Champions League final from St. Petersburg to Paris and ended its long association with the Gazprom Russian energy company.

The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland showed interest in co-hosting the 2028 edition, while Italy seeks to organize the tournament four years later. EFE
