Five dead, including police officer, in shooting in Raleigh, US

Washington, Oct 13 (EFE).- At least five people died, including an off-duty police officer Thursday in a shooting in the United States in a neighborhood east of Raleigh in North Carolina, according to authorities.

Security forces reported at a press conference that two other people were injured and that the main suspect, a man dressed in camouflage clothing and carrying a double-barreled shotgun, has already been arrested.

Several police patrols and an ambulance went to the scene around 5:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. GMT) and it took approximately three hours from when the alert was received until the suspect was arrested.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, said on Twitter that he had spoken with Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin and ordered state law enforcement to help with the investigation.

For her part, Baldwin said Thursday’s day is “sad and tragic” for the city of Raleigh and called for an end to “senseless” violence in the US. EFE
