Explosions hit Kyiv, air alert triggered across Ukraine

Lviv, Ukraine, Nov 15 (EFE).- Several explosions hit residential buildings in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on Tuesday, the city’s mayor said.

Russian missiles hit residential buildings in the Pecherskyi district of the city, Vitaly Klitschko said in a series of posts on his official Telegram channel.

“Attack on the capital. According to preliminary information, two residential buildings were hit in Pecherskyi district. Several missiles were shot down by air defense over Kyiv,” he said, later adding that another strike had been reported at a third building.

Air sirens have been in effect across Ukraine since 14:45 local time amid possible missile attacks launched by Russia.

Earlier on Tuesday, another six regional governments informed of a “mass launch” of Russian missiles on their territories and called on residents to take shelter.

There have also been reports of explosions in the western city of Lviv, where the mayor Andriy Sadovyi informed of power cuts in some parts of the city.

Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the regional military administration in Lviv, added on Telegram: “The enemy hit a critical energy infrastructure facility in the Lviv region (…) there are problems with power supply, interruptions in mobile operators services. Stay in shelters! The danger is still ongoing.”

Ukrainian government adviser Oleksiy Arestovych wrote on Twitter: “The summit in Bali was ‘successful’ for the Russian Federation, apparently,” in reference to the G20 Summit that began on Tuesday, where the war in Ukraine has been the main subject of discussion.

Ukraine’s foreign minister tweeted: “Russia is hitting peaceful Ukrainian cities with deadly missiles. Apartment buildings, energy infrastructure facilities are being hit. Looking forward to a principled reaction of the G20 summit.

“And please avoid ‘calling on both sides’. Take the side of people, not war criminals.”EFE
