Alex Moreno scores twice in Betis 4-0 rout of Real Sociedad
Sevilla, Spain, Dec 12 (EFE).- Real Betis drubbed Real Sociedad 4-0 on Sunday at Benito Villamarin stadium before 52,158 fans, moving into third place on the La Liga table after a magnificent match full of effective and brilliant play both on offense and defense.
The score-fest commenced in the 14th minute when Real Sociedad goaltender Alex Remiro committed an egregious error that left the net open and Alex Moreno capitalized by firing in a blast for the 1-0.
Although both teams showed much verve on offense in their duel for a Champions spot, Manuel Pellegrini completely recrafted his starting Betis 11 with 10 changes from the team’s latest match in Glasgow.
Both squads played a concentrated game with great energy, with Real Sociedad trying to exert asmuch pressure as possible on the home team, and the score was 1-0 at the break, although the visitors had several good chances to tie things up that came to nought.
It was in the second half that Betis really came into its own, however, coming out with great energy and clearly dominating play, with Juanmi notching the 2-0 in the 57th minute on a great header after a good centering pass by Moreno
With Real Sociedad on the ropes, it was Fekir who made it 3-0 in the 66th minute on a perfect shot from in front of the area after a great feed by Willian Jose.
And it was Moreno again in the 79th minute who took advantage of another great pass, this one by Canales, to find the twine again thus bringing Real Sociedad’s nightmare outing to a close.
Real Sociedad is now in the fifth spot on the La Liga table after 17 weeks of play, with 29 points.
