Pakistan reports zero Covid-19 deaths for first time in 2 years

Islamabad, Mar 23 (EFE).- Pakistan reported zero deaths from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, marking the first such instance in two years in the country, according to official date on Wednesday.

The country of 220 million people reported its first death from the highly infectious Covid-19 virus in March 2020.

According to the latest daily report from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), overseeing the pandemic response, a total of 34,476 tests were conducted out of which 443 new cases were diagnosed while positivity rate remained 1.28 percent.

“Alhamdolilah (thank God) no COVID related death reported in last 24 hours! This is first time in almost 2 years,” NCOC said in a tweet.

NCOC added that 455 patients infected with the virus are on critical care across the country.

Pakistan has now recorded a total of 1,522,862 coronavirus cases and 30,333 deaths from the coronavirus since the pandemic started.

The NCOC underlined that 102 million people, or 46 percent of the total population, have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus – 501,747 of them in the last 24 hours.

Moreover, 4,869,245 people have been administered a booster shot in the country.

The government lifted all Covid-related restrictions on Mar. 16 in Pakistan.

“We now need a transition to move towards a normal life because it seems like the pandemic will continue and become a part of the day-to-day life,” Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar had then said.

The minister, however, clarified that the removal of restrictions “doesn’t mean the pandemic is over” and the government would continue to monitor the situation. EFE
