Real Madrid’s new signing David Alaba tests positive for coronavirus

Madrid, Jul 28 (EFE).- Real Madrid’s newcomer David Alaba has tested positive for Covid-19, the Spanish club announced on Wednesday.

“Real Madrid C. F. would like to notify that our player, David Alaba, has tested positive for Covid-19,” LaLiga giants said in a brief statement.

The Austrian defender first joined in with Real Madrid training on 22 July under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, a day after being presented.

The 29-year-old, the only new player to join Los Blancos so far this summer, did not take part in this morning’s training session as he underwent a PCR test.

A few days ago, the Spanish powerhouse announced that French forward Karim Benzema had tested positive for Covid-19.

This is not uncharted territory for Real Madrid as several players were infected with the virus last season, including Toni Kroos, Militao, Casemiro, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Nacho Fernández, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Fede Valverde.

Real Madrid are scheduled to kick off their LaLiga season on 14 August at Alaves. EFE
