Russian troops start returning to barracks after drills near Ukraine

Moscow, Feb 15 (EFE).- Some Russian military units have started returning to their permanent bases after concluding drills in the west and south military areas near the border with Ukraine, Russian defense ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, said Tuesday.

“Units of the Southern and Western Military Districts that have accomplished their tasks have already begun loading personnel and equipment on railway and auto transport means and will today begin heading to their military garrisons,” Konashenkov said.

He added Russian armed forces would continue its troop readiness training, including the Russian fleets and airborne units.

Konashenkov also told local media that combat firing will take place on February 19 as part of the final stages of the Union Resolve 2022 exercise, during which a Russian marine brigade supported by aviation and units of the Belarusian army will carry out maneuvers.

Foreign military attaches from embassies in Belarus will observe the joint exercises at the Obuz-Lesnovsky combat training range, he added. EFE
