Binghampton Organization Launching Workforce Program

MEMPHIS, TN (The Daily Memphian) — The Binghampton Development Corp. is creating a new neighborhood workforce development initiative hosted at the Power & Telephone and Supply Co. warehouse on Yale Avenue.
The BDC will launch its Business Hub initiative in 2021 at Power & Tel’s soon-to-be former 82,000-square-foot location at 2690 Yale Ave. Power & Tel is donating its site to the BDC as it’s moving its headquarters to Piperton in Fayette County.
The Business Hub will use the warehouse to provide paid hard and soft skill on-the-job training for Binghampton-area job seekers. The BDC also plans to offer employment opportunities for workers in the logistics, recycling and construction industries.
Power & Tel’s donation comes more than a year after its announced plans to move its headquarters from Binghampton to Piperton.
ower & Tel previously gave the BDC its biggest and lead grant for the Binghampton Gateway Center, that opened in 2018, at Sam Cooper Boulevard and Tillman. The Gateway Center included the neighborhood’s first grocery store, until it closed earlier this year, a Dollar Tree and Inspire Community Café.
The Business Hub is building upon the BDC’s work in the past decade. That includes on-the-job construction training and youth employment opportunities through the Binghampton Lawn Care Group.
