World Cup’s first temporary stadium dismantled

Doha, Dec 10 (EFE).- Work to dismantle Stadium 974, the World Cup’s first temporary and reusable soccer stadium, is underway after the venue hosted its final World Cup match when Brazil hammered South Korea 4-1 in the round of 16 last week.

Qatar has said the stadium is a “beacon of sustainability” and “a pioneer in sustainable stadium development.”

Its name is a nod to both Qatar’s international telephone code and the exact number of shipping containers that were used in its construction.

The stadium in Doha’s port area also pays tribute to the country’s commercial and shipping traditions.

Qatar has yet to announce how or for what events the containers will be repurposed. EFE
