Guardiola ends Tottenham curse in FA Cup win

London, Jan 26 (EFE).- Pep Guardiola joked months ago that the last thing he needed to achieve in England was for his team to score a goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and after six unsuccessful attempts he achieved it Friday to eliminate them in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Nathan Ake’s goal in the 88th minute, off a corner, ended City’s goal drought since Tottenham moved to their shiny new stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s men lose another opportunity to win a title and, if not for a miracle in the Premier League, it will have been 16 years since they last won a trophy.

City, who were in greater need for a win instead of a replay in Manchester, came out dominating and believed they had taken the lead after five minutes through Oscar Bobb. The Norwegian striker pushed a rebound from Vicario after Phil Foden’s shot, but VAR judged it to have been offside and ruled it out.

For minutes and minutes, City locked in the Spurs, who did not exit their half of the field for almost half an hour, but they could not score a goal and their curse seemed impossible to eliminate.

In the final minutes they gave their all through Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne with comfortable shots that could have ended the game before a corner, and controversially, City ended the tie.

Ake made it 0-1 eventually through a play started by De Bruyne. There was a slight VAR review, but the goal stood and City reached the round of 16, ending one of their biggest pending issues along the way. EFE
