Netflix’s Sex/Life sheds light on female desire

Madrid, Jun 25 (EFE).- Female sexuality and desire take center stage in Netflix’s new series Sex/Life, which premiers Friday, inspired by American author BB Easton’s best-selling book.

The series tells the story of Billie, a wife and mother who is bored of her suburban life and starts journaling and fantasizing about sex with her ex-boyfriend.

Drama strikes when Billie’s husband finds the journal and her ex-boyfriend makes his way back into her life, leading to a complicated love triangle.

In an interview with Efe, Easton shares what inspired her book 44 Chapters About 4 Men and why she thinks female sexuality is an important topic.

“When I wrote it, it was really just for myself. I was just writing what was happening in my life, I was just entertaining myself,” Easton told Efe.

The author, who is also a child psychologist, said she started writing the book to unburden herself from her own marital problems.

Easton, who said she never expected her “little story to turn into a huge Hollywood extravaganza” said the series sheds a different view on women’s desires and their love affairs.

“There are lots of shows about female sexuality, but it is always about single women, and the story ends when she has kids, but there aren’t shows about women that are mums who are flaring their sexuality,” she said.

“Women have been repressed and controlled and told that their desires are shameful or could get them imprisoned or killed, woman sexuality has always been a source of fear.

“I think we are starting to see changes, but it is going to take some time and is going to take stories like this to really help us.”
