Herrera, Custo, Palomo fill winter fashion season with color

New York, Feb 13 (EFE).- Carolina Herrera, Custo Barcelona and Palomo Spain were the stars of an intense fourth day of New York’s Fashion Week that had as its common denominator the reliance on bright colors to enliven next year’s fall/winter season.
The morning began at The Plaza Hotel, where the firm founded by the Venezuelan designer presented a collection inspired by Empress Sisi and adapted for the modern woman with bejeweled garments, feminine silhouettes and colors that evoked assorted precious stones.
Empress Sisi was Elizabeth of Bavaria, the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary from her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I on April 24,1854, until her assassination in 1898.
The creative director of Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon, once again took up emblematic designs such as the white blouse/fitted pants combination, but above all he provided continuity for the firm’s elegant style and made the line’s central feature the dress, whether short or long.
The “opulence” he sought with the new line translated into garments such as a white tweed miniskirt covered with jewels and another of pink fuchsia bordered with stones, and for evening wear he has created long gowns fitted in the body and with voluminous skirts, including one in lilac silk with a flounce and neckline of black tulle.
Meanwhile, Custo Barcelona remained faithful to the fashion extravaganza in the Big Apple by debuting the line it will bring to Madrid in the coming days, named the “Welcome to the Other Side” set in which fashion creativity, combining emotion and functionality, is the watchword.
To combat the cold, the Spanish firm set its sights on designing feathered overcoats in a short but spacious version elaborated with attention-getting finishes, including metallicized blue and yellow leopard skin prints along with miniskirts full of cutouts and slits.
Custo’s line was one of the outstanding parades to be viewed on Monday at the Web site of the Federation of Designers of Latin America (FDLA), where Agatha Ruiz de la Prada also displayed its new line exploding with colors.
Meanwhile, Palomo Spain launched a collection that combined genres, played with volumes, combined a flirtatious style with a more “sporty” style and included a palette of pastel colors like pale pink, mint green and canary yellow, with assorted other neutral shades.
According to what the designer told the specialized WWD media outlet, his proposal was inspired by the freedom of childhood and by the innocence with which he explored his mother’s wardrobe, made outfits using sheets and recreated hairdos by placing towels on his head.
One of his most remarked-upon creations were the knee-high boots with exaggerated laces extending from the instep up to the knee, along with the brown fur-covered boots to match an oversized coat.
The fashion event will continue on Monday afternoon featuring firms such as Coach, Batsheva, Priscavera and Elena Velez, some of the nearly 80 brands participating in this edition of Fashion Week, a venue which seems increasingly willing to expand its diversity and put its money on sustainable practices.
